This 12 minutes guided somatic tracking practice will help you begin to change your relationship with pain and sensation.
Somatic tracking is a core practice within Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). Rather than trying to make pain disappear, you are learning to observe sensation with safety, curiosity, and ease, so your brain can begin to update its interpretation and reduce the protective response over time.
This practice is best used when your pain or symptoms are at a lower level, ideally under a 5 out of 10. If your pain is higher, start with something that redirects your brain's attention first, like music, art, laughter, play, or being with someone safe. Then return to this practice when the intensity has come down.
What you'll practice in this session:
- Bringing calm, focused awareness to one sensation
- Observing without fear, bracing, or trying to fix it
- Understanding that sensation may be a learned protective response, not a sign of damage
- Creating space between sensation and the brain's fear response
Remember: the goal is not to make the sensation disappear the first time. The goal is to meet it differently. Each time you do that, you are helping your brain learn something new.
