Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) is a memory loss of how to feel and control certain muscles or muscles groups in the body. It is a learned motor pattern of the nervous system whereby these muscles display a limited range of motion, maintain a higher than normal level of involuntary contraction at rest, experience ongoing pain, and other dysfunctions at rest or in use.
SMA is undiagnosible and untreatable through the traditional medical model because the treatment requires work involving the sensory motor feedback loop.

Sensory Motor Amnesia shows up many ways, most often with persistent and unexplained body and muscle pain from an involuntarily chronically contracted muscle, that no amount of massage or stretching changes.
A muscle that is chronically contracted 24/7 is utterly exhausted and drains the body of energy. Bodies that have localized or widespread SMA present with some of the most common ailments of today’s society – chronic of recurring back pain, outer hip pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, IBS or poor digestion, urinary urgency, pelvic floor pain, shoulder pain, rhomboid pain, frozen shoulder, poor digestion the list goes on.
Working somatically we begin by bringing your brain’s awareness to the contraction, slow release of, and complete relaxation of the muscle (this action is known as pandiculation).
By developing this mindfulness and mental awareness of the contraction of the muscle and then the associated slow release and lengthening, allows us to regain voluntary control of the muscle. As the muscles begin to contract, release and lengthen easily, they perform optimally and you regain balance, strength and function.
