So we first introduced the idea that your back pain is caused by a readiness to action and habituation of a reflex called Green Light Reflex. If you missed it you can catch up to speed by reading blog post entitled Your go, go, go attitude may be causing your back pain. The truth is that there is a secret way to release tight back muscles and the world needs to know about it.
Just to reiterate a few key points, our back line muscles contract in readiness, to propel us forward in life, both to go after our goals and also to run away from threat. Habituation, is the brain’s way of learning. This habituation in the brain’s learning process takes a new skill from conscious practice to unconscious, autonomic learning and this also explains why muscles get stuck in contractive patterns that cause us pain.
Back muscles that are contracted 24/7 are utterly exhausted and and can feel tender or painful. This chronic painful contraction interrupts sleep and can leave us feeling low in energy or exhausted.
So what’s the commonly prescribed solution?
A commonly prescribed remedy for back pain is to “Strengthen the Abdominals”. The problem is that this approach is incongruent with the way our bodies work and the way that the back muscles are meant to action in relationship to our abdominals.
Finally a new approach
We teach a completely different approach to alleviate back pain.
The secret way to alleviating back pain is starting to get out and we are so excited about that.
The technique involves a re-education of the back line muscles so that they learn to release long at rest. This is also known as 0% resting tonus. This means that the muscles let go when they are not being used, and can fire well when they are called to action.
In order to re-educate the back line muscles we use a simple technique called PANDICULATION. It has 3 simple steps.
- Conscious contraction of a muscle
- Conscious, slow lengthening of the muscle and
- Conscious rest
Done at least once a day, this simple exercise will re-establish good communication between your brain and muscular system to reduce or resolve your tension/pain.
Using this technique you can begin to re-educate poorly functioning low back and abdominal muscles. Not only will you reduce or resolve your pain but also increase your core strength, by shifting tension out of your body and teaching your muscles how to function optimally.
Now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak, are you excited to learn about about this not-so-secret secret?
We will be sharing more about PANDICULATION and how to get out of pain in our soon to be released Method 101 online course that will be launched later this summer. You can pre-register for the course now at a significant savings.
