The experience of pain has big shoulders and deep roots. Pain is influenced by the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves. The yogis say that all pain is rooted in spiritual discord.
We often hear statements like:
“I have always had tight shoulders.”
“My pain worsens when I am stressed.”
“My elbow gets sore after I golf so I ice it after I play.”
“Do you think there is a connection between the loss of my late wife and the pain I am experiencing all over my body?”
The questions that come up for us over and over again is “WHY is this pain showing up?” Why is society not taught about how unaddressed emotions, traumas and belief systems cause pain? And why are we continuously taught to look outside ourselves for the solution?
When working with clients or our own bodies, we always ask:
“What is the underlying pattern that is creating that tension/pain?”
As Somatic Educators and SomaYoga Therapists we put on the hat of Sherlock Holmes to put together the pieces of the story that are clues to helping that person get out of pain.
Society teaches us through manipulative advertising to continually look outside of ourselves for solutions to our pain.
We spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on pain medications whether pharmacological or alternative, machines to massage or try to force our muscles to let go, we roll out our tight muscles with a foam roller, just to have to do it again the next day. We poke and prod ourselves in every which way.
At Resolve Pain Guru, our message is simple.
We want you to recognize the healing power of your own body and mind – for you to recognize that you are the guru of your own healing process. And we want to share with you powerful somatic and parasympathetic nervous systems techniques to create lasting change.
We believe that we as a society have been indoctrinated to look in the wrong direction – Out instead of In.
The Brilliance of our Somas
We are amazing creatures that have a brain and free will, the ability to self-correct and self-regulate to change the story of our pain. Of course, there are exceptions like a cancerous tumor or an acute injury like stepping on a nail. What we are talking about is chronic, nagging, neuromuscular, emotional and spiritual pain.
Pain is a Message
Pain is a message, a warning call, an alarm for us to pay attention. Our bodies are trying to tell us to stop, take a moment and put conscious attention on what is going on.
Unfortunately, most often we choose to wait until we are in crisis before we address our pain.
Self Healing Miracles
We have worked with so many different cases in our career as SomaYoga Therapists and have truly seen miracles simply because clients changed their mindset and started looking through a different lens.
They realized that their bodies had the potential to heal themselves. As they learned to reconnect with their somas, they learned to listen to and nourish the roots of themselves – the mind, emotions, body and spirit.
As our clients learned to get quiet and listen to the wisdom of their bodies they could tend to the root cause that needed their care and attention. As they did this, they began to get better. And their health and lives began to change.
While the experience of pain has big shoulders and deep roots, it responds well to care and attention. Much the same way a garden will flourish with water and fertilizer.
Stay tuned for our next post where we will address the issue of Trust. Trust is a huge factor in healing.
